The CSSD working group  Social Justice After the Welfare State presents:

"Democracy after the Welfare State: a Conversation," a book launch event for Democracy and the Welfare State: The Two Wests in the Age of Austerity, edited by Alice Kessler-Harris and Maurizio Vaudagna.

Description
A panel composed of the following speakers and topics: Linda Gordon (New York University), Yasmine Ergas (Columbia University), Frances Fox Piven (The Graduate Center, CUNY), and Volker Berghahn (Columbia University). Remarks by Alice Kessler-Harris and Maurizio Vaudagna. Each panelist will speak on the question of the future of democracy in light of current events and the essays in the book. The panel will be followed by a reception and book sales.

The research of CSSD working group Social Justice After the Welfare State inspired the creation of this book.

This book celebration is co-sponsored by the Department of History, ISERP, the Society of Fellows, the Heyman Center for the Humanities, the Institute for Research on Women, Gender, & Sexuality, and the Columbia University Press.
