A’Lelia Bundles is a vice chair of the Columbia University board of trustees. She is at work on her fifth book, The Joy Goddess of Harlem: A'Lelia Walker and the Harlem Renaissance, a biography of her great-grandmother. On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker, which she began researching while a student at Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism, has been optioned for a Netflix series starring Octavia Spencer and produced by LeBron James. She remains a member of the board of the National Archives Foundation after serving two terms as chair. A producer and executive with ABC News and NBC News for thirty years, she now is the historical consultant for Madam C J. Walker Beauty Culture, a line of hair care products.
